Director Mel Brooks’ outlandish and outrageous 1974 comedy Blazing Saddles is one of the most celebrated and honored comedies of all time. Nominated for three Academy Awards and added to the National Film Registry in 2006, Blazing Saddles stars Clevon Little, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, and Harvey Korman. The Capitol will be presenting the original, uncut 1974 theatrical version of this legendary comedy.

In this satirical take on Westerns, crafty railroad worker Bart (Cleavon Little) becomes the first black sheriff of Rock Ridge, a frontier town about to be destroyed in order to make way for a new railroad. Initially, the people of Rock Ridge harbor a racial bias toward their new leader. However, they warm to him after realizing that Bart and his perpetually drunk gunfighter friend (Gene Wilder) are the only defense against a wave of thugs sent to rid the town of its population.

In order to ruin a western town, a corrupt politician appoints a black sheriff, who promptly becomes his most formidable adversary.
