Many would argue that popular music just hasn’t been the same since the “big band” era of the 1930s and ’40s. Back then, music was “experienced” by enjoying large groups of real musicians playing real instruments in a live setting using nothing but the power of their lungs and hands, rather than today’s more common electronic sampling and amplified sound. The Jonesborough Rhythm Express is a 17-piece big band consisting of 13 horns and a rhythm section and is proudly carrying on the powerful musical tradition of the big bands.
They will be performing a 2-hour concert on Saturday, April 16th at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Greeneville at 8 PM. They will be playing a variety of 40’s swing tunes from classic artists such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Henry Mancini, and Harry James, as well as more modern songs by Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Jackson 5, Neil Diamond, and the Squirrel Nut Zippers. There will even be some Blues Brothers and Broadway tunes thrown into the mix for good measure. They will also feature a fantastic vocalist for several of their songs.
Come out and enjoy a toe-tapping, hand-clapping, and finger-snapping good time! There will even be some room down on the floor in front of the stage if you want to dust off your dancing shoes!
