The Whisky Sticks was formed in 2009; stemming from two other bands (Doc Bonhome and Stormy Monday). Over years of playing in venues around the Tri-Cities area, the members of The Whisky Sticks discovered that they shared an overwhelming amount of musical influences, abilities, and aspirations. Naturally, an inevitable gravitation materialized among the band fellows, centered around each member's mutual affinity for musical enjoyment, experimentation, refinement, and performance.
Kris Carlson sings and plays lead and rhythm guitar for the crew, and is an exceptional musician, composer, player and music instructor. Kris is a spiritual fellow who, maintains a sense of humor that knows no bounds. He has a zest for music and life in general that never goes unnoticed. Scott Mancl also provides lyrics, lead and rhythm guitar to the company. Scott is a brilliant songwriter, musician, and person altogether. Electrical/Mechanical Engineer by trade, a friend once said of Scott, "He's ridiculously intelligent. Scott could look at a house and tell you how many gallons of paint it would take to cover the outside of it with none left over." He loves all things outdoors and has a versatile and harmonious voice that evokes emotion from any crowd. Todd Kane brings on the bass. He has been noted as being among the areas most raucous and flamboyant slide guitar players. However, he currently prefers to commandeer the rhythm of The Whisky Sticks with his crafty bass skills. Whenever he dons a bass, the seemingly introspective thinker of this union metamorphasizes into a character that reminds one of an angry shawman who smiles a lot. Brandon Renfro is one of the areas most well seasoned and developed drummers. A drummer's drummer who also possesses a voice that would give Gregg Allman a run for his money, Renfro loves drumming so much that, often, when he isn't on shift at his day gig as one of Johnson Cities Bravest, he's either selling, trading, or teaching drums. He is a drum veteran who may play as masterfully as Steve Gadd or as tenaciously as Alex Van Halen. Personally, though, I think he's happiest when he's hammering them! When these guys congregate on stage, prepare yourself for a wide variety of witty, edgy, high fidelity musical performances that are sure to keep you coming back to see these guys again and again.
